Seladonia
Seladonia are a group of small to medium-sized, metallic halictids. They have a characteristic greenish or golden coloration and short, pale body hair that forms light bands on the abdomen, sometimes concealing the underlying surface. Like other halictids, females have a bald apical groove on the last tergite (“rima”). Males have a similar color, but a much slimmer and elongated built and longer antennae. Their flight season is very long, and they can have multiple generations within the same year, but only fertilized females overwinter to re-start the cycle on the next spring. Several species show social behavior, but the degree of sociality may vary depending on environmental conditions. Due to their similarities, Seladonia is sometimes referred as a subgenus of Halictus.
