The wild bee fauna of Luxembourg

Wild bees of Luxemburg

Genera

33 wild bee genera are considered as
currently present in the country.

A genus (plural genera) is a taxonomic category that refers to a consistent group of species that share some fundamental features and/or are closely related. Wild bees that share important key traits (either morphological, ecological, phenological or genetic) are commonly classified within the same genus. You can think of it like this: if “species” were pokemon, then their “genera” would be their different “types”.
The following list includes all extant species from Luxembourg considered as valid by the beelibre project, following the taxonomic annotation and country records of Reverté et al. 2023. New observation data reported by either the beelibre project or its direct collaborators is also considered here. However, species with historical records that lack validated observation data after the year 2000 are not considered in this section.
Overall, 33 wild bee genera are considered as currently present in the country.
