Of the 13 species described in Europe, three are currently found in Luxembourg.
Panurgus
Panurgus are small to medium-sized, dark-looking wild bees. Both sexes have large heads and a rather flat, rhomboid abdomen. Their cuticle and sparsely distributed body hair are almost completely jet black, giving them an overall glossy appearance. Females have well-developed tibial scopae with long, spiraled yellow hairs. They copulate several times during they lifetime and the females can be approached by several males at once during mating. Panurgus are solitary or communal ground-nesting bees, mostly found during the summer months. They are specialized foragers that have Asteraceae species as host plants.
